Time to Update...Something

I felt the need to make sure I still knew how to even use this thing and felt compelled to share...something. Mainly because, well...it's Sunday?  Yeah, we'll go with that.  Book recommendations are always safe, I think.  I recently stumbled across this little gem, and got sucked in very quickly:  Unbreakable, by Kami Garcia.

I'm sure this will come as no surprise, but I am a nerd.  And there are very random, nerdy things that I like outside of literature.  Several of those elements were actually captured in this book, which I have found this author does very well, quite often.  Many of the settings are real, rather than fictional, places.  Garcia manages to incorporate the actual history of these places into her story lines.  (Which really makes me want to go visit said places in person, like I did when I was in New Orleans after reading her Beautiful Creatures series.)  Plus, there was a short passage about Alice in Chains, which happens to be my absolute favorite band.  That was a nice little surprise.
But enough with detailed.  Pick it up, give it a try.  And get outside and do something fun before cold weather sneaks up on us again. Oh yeah, and one more thing...pumpkins!

Currently Reading

I'm currently completely engrossed in this series by Ransom Riggs. The concept of integrating a basing an entire series on old pictures as this author did is ingenious.  I admit, I caved and downloaded this to an e-reader--something I generally stray from with novels that include any kind of graphics--but it seems to work well with this one.

Book Recommendation

For those of you looking for a new read, I suggest the following:  Good People, by Kelly Adamson.  This is the first novel released by this author, who happens to be from my home town.  The book was just released a few months ago.  (I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to read it before it made it to print. ;) )

Happy Reading!

I Surrender

OK, I can take a hint...sometimes.  What I can't take is constant harassment by friends and family about how lazy and unmotivated I've become with writing and all things related to it.  Especially because...well, they're right.  So, in an effort to restore balance and harmony in the universe, I have promised to be more active in writing, blogging, reading, etc.

Return to the Land of the Living

Almost a year since an update?  Well that just doesn't seem right.  What can I say...it's been a long strange year.  Now that my brain has shifted out of overdrive and is steering back towards normalcy...well, maybe that's jumping the gun a bit.  In any event, here's a recommendation on a series I'm currently reading and thoroughly enjoying by Alexander Gordon Smith.  Check them out, and stay tuned. ;)

My New Shirt

I got this shirt for Christmas.  So funny and so true!  I have created and killed off so many characters just because someone made me mad. Hope everyone had a good Christmas.  Have a safe New Year!

It's Been a Minute

So I log in this cold Friday morning to discover that my blog is still pink, meaning I haven't updated it since October!  Wow, times flies when you are having fun.  Let's see, progress?  Virtually none in regards to writing for the past few months now.  What can I say, life gets in the way sometimes.  But I am finding myself with more and more free time these days, so here's to hoping I can de-fry my brain and that will change in the near future.  In the meantime, I have a new Twitter account, dedicated solely to writing and the likes - @MLJWrites Other than that, I leave you with a book for suggested reading, until next time when *hopefully* I will have something more exciting to report.

Check out the 2nd book in the Razorland series, The Outpost by Ann Aguirre.
